AIIMS Rajkot MBBS Student Suicide: 5 Classmates Arrested Over Harassment

Just days after the heartbreaking incident at IMS BHU, the medical fraternity has been shattered by yet another tragedy. A 25-year-old final-year MBBS student at AIIMS Rajkot, Ratankumar Meghwal, was found dead on a railway track early Saturday morning.

Following a police investigation, five of his batchmates have been officially arrested on charges of abetment to suicide and under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The 17-Page Suicide Note

According to the Gandhigram police, Meghwal, a native of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, was found near the tracks between Ghanteshwar and Para Pipaliya. Authorities recovered his laptop, phone, medical ID, and a chilling 17-page suicide note written in both Hindi and English.

In the note, the young doctor explicitly accused five of his classmates of subjecting him to relentless mental harassment and physical assault since January. The torture allegedly stemmed from unfounded suspicions regarding his interactions with a female student.

A Previous Cry for Help

Tragically, this was not his first attempt. Sources confirmed that Meghwal had previously attempted to take his life at the exact same location on January 27, leaving behind a similar note. He was rescued by local villagers at the time. Despite receiving psychiatric care and being taken home by his parents, he recently returned to the Rajkot campus to appear for his final-year MBBS examinations. Instead of heading to his hostel, he walked toward the tracks.

Arrests and Ongoing Outrage

Acting on a formal complaint filed by the victim’s father, police have arrested his five classmates: Pranav Paliwal, Asmit Sharma, Ayush Yadav, Nirvighnam Noor, and Yuvraj Chaudhary. Since their final exams began today, the court has allowed the accused to write their papers under strict police security.

This devastating loss has reignited furious debates across medical college campuses nationwide. Student unions are demanding to know why institutional anti-ragging and mental health committees failed to protect a student who had already shown severe, documented signs of distress.
