Anatomy HoD Steps Down at Medical College Kolkata Following Molestation Allegations by 1st-Year Student
Students have accused the Head of the Department (HoD) of Anatomy at Medical College Kolkata of sexually harassing a first-year MBBS student.
The allegations surfaced last month after a group of students submitted a written complaint to the principal on November 21.
The complaint alleges that the senior professor engaged in “inappropriate touch, physical harassment, and misconduct” both inside and outside the classroom. Students claim this is not an isolated incident and have labeled the professor a “repeat offender.”
The accused HoD has reportedly stepped down from his administrative post following the intense student protests.
Latest update: The college administration has formally referred the case to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) for a thorough inquiry.
A separate 7-member inquiry panel (including student representatives and female faculty) has also been constituted to probe the matter parallel to the ICC.
The Medical College Students’ Union (MCSU) is demanding the permanent suspension of the professor from teaching duties and an apology from a female assistant professor who allegedly defended the accused when the victim first spoke up.
