Doon Medical College Ragging: 9 MBBS Students Expelled & Fined ₹50k for Assaulting Junior
The administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun, has taken severe disciplinary action against nine MBBS students following a harrowing ragging complaint filed by a first-year student (2025 batch).
The victim alleged that on January 12, he was taken outside the campus by seniors from the 2023 and 2024 batches, where he was beaten with belts and slippers, forced to trim his hair against his will, and made to sleep outdoors in the cold. The student described the ordeal as “humiliating” and stated he was left mentally disturbed and living in fear.
Acting on the report of the Anti-Ragging Committee, the college has imposed strict penalties to set a “zero tolerance” example. The two primary accused have been suspended from classes for two months and permanently expelled from the hostel for the entire duration of their course and internship. They were also slapped with a fine of ₹50,000 each. Seven other students found involved were suspended from classes for one month and expelled from the hostel for three months.
Principal Dr. Geeta Jain confirmed the action, stating that the campus is a “ragging-free zone” and such indiscipline will not be tolerated. The incident also drew the attention of Uttarakhand Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, who condemned the act as “extremely unfortunate” and directed the college to ensure the punishment serves as a deterrent for future batches.
