Mumbai MDS Student Found Dead: Boyfriend Arrested for Harassment After Toxic ‘Fridge’ Warnings
The medical fraternity in Mumbai has been deeply shaken by the tragic death of a 24-year-old postgraduate dentistry student. Dr. Stuti Sonawane, an MDS student who was also working part-time at BYL Nair Hospital, was found dead at her residence in the Antop Hill area on Monday morning.
Police officers recovered a six-page suicide note from her bedroom, detailing severe mental distress. Based on the contents of the note and a formal complaint from her parents, authorities have arrested her 31-year-old boyfriend, Fazal Mohammad Khan, an insurance agent.
According to police reports, the couple met via a dating application and had been in a relationship for the past year. The note alleges that the accused constantly suspected her of cheating and continuously subjected her to humiliating and hurtful remarks regarding her character.
The case has drawn terrifying parallels to the infamous Shraddha Walkar murder. According to the police, Dr. Sonawane’s friends were acutely aware of the toxic nature of her relationship and the distress it was causing her. The situation was so alarming that friends would often warn her, chillingly stating, “We don’t want to see you in the fridge” – a direct reference to the Walkar case.
The accused has been booked under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigations are underway.
