NMC Announces 43,250 CRMI Slots for FMG Internship 2026-27 | Check full List
In a major move to resolve the ongoing crisis surrounding the training of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released a nationwide seat matrix for Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internships (CRMI).
The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) confirmed that a massive 43,250 internship slots will be available for FMGs across various States and Union Territories for the academic year 2026–27.
Ending the Allotment Crisis
For months, FMGs have faced severe shortages of internship seats, prompting a wave of legal battles in various High Courts and the Supreme Court. To address this directly, the NMC has mandated strict criteria for how these new slots are generated:
• 7.5% of the permitted intern intake in established medical colleges will be reserved for FMGs.
• 100% of the CRMI seats in newly established medical colleges will go to FMGs.
• 100% of seats generated from the recent capacity enhancements in existing colleges will also be allocated to FMGs.
The apex body has officially directed all State Medical Councils, in coordination with their respective Directorates of Medical Education, to immediately initiate the allotment process. Furthermore, the NMC has given states a strict one-week deadline to flag any discrepancies or factual inaccuracies in the released matrix to ensure the process isn’t delayed any further.
