Shocking: Arts Graduate and Class 12 Student Run Illegal Hospital, Woman Dies After C-Section
In a horrifying incident exposing the dangers of unchecked medical quackery, a woman in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, lost her life after a Caesarean section was performed by two unqualified individuals – a Class 12 student and a Bachelor of Arts graduate. The victim, identified as Priyanka, was admitted to Navjeevan Hospital in Baskhari on February 5 for delivery.
The accused, identified as 32-year-old Yogesh Verma (a BA graduate) and 19-year-old Shubham Vishwakarma (a Class 12 student), conducted the surgery despite possessing no medical degrees or surgical qualifications. While they managed to deliver a baby girl, the procedure turned fatal for the mother. Reports indicate that Priyanka suffered excessive bleeding and failed to regain consciousness following the administration of anesthesia. As her condition deteriorated rapidly, she was referred to a hospital in Lucknow but succumbed to her complications.
Following a complaint by the victim’s family and the local Community Health Center superintendent, police arrested Verma and Vishwakarma on Friday. The investigation revealed shocking lapses in regulatory oversight; the “hospital” had been operating illegally for five years out of a four-room residential building without registration, fire safety clearance, or qualified staff. During interrogation, the duo confessed they had “gained experience” merely by observing procedures at other local hospitals.
Authorities have charged the pair with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and medical negligence. A search is currently underway for the hospital’s operator, identified as Ruby, who fled the scene. This tragic event underscores the critical need for stricter enforcement against illegal medical practices in rural India.
