IMA Launches Phased HPV Vaccine Drive: ₹1,000 Shots for Doctors’ Families; Public Rollout Slated for 2026
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a phased vaccination drive against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to combat cervical cancer, starting in December 2025.
The initial phase will focus exclusively on providing the vaccine to the families of IMA’s registered doctors and members. Through a partnership with a pharmaceutical company, the vaccine will be offered to members at ₹1,000, which is approximately half the current market rate.

The IMA plans to extend this vaccination program to the general public across the country starting after March 26, 2026.
While running this private initiative, the IMA continues to urge the government to include the HPV vaccine in the National Immunization Programme to make it free of cost for all eligible girls (aged 9-14).
