Tragic Loss: KMC Medical Student Dies by Suicide in Mangaluru
The medical fraternity in Karnataka has been shaken by the heartbreaking loss of a young medical student earlier this week. On Monday afternoon, March 30, a 23-year-old final-year MBBS student from Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, tragically lost his life after allegedly jumping from the 12th floor of an apartment building in the Attavar area.
The Tragic Incident on Monday
According to preliminary reports from the local authorities, the deceased has been identified as Sarthak Maurya, a native of Kolkata who was residing in a private hostel in the city. On the afternoon of March 30, Sarthak had visited the Casa Grand apartment complex in Attavar.
After signing the visitor register at the security desk, he reportedly proceeded directly to the 12th floor. Authorities stated that he placed his mobile phone on the ground before taking the extreme step, dying on the spot.

The Pandeshwar Police Station was immediately notified, and personnel arrived promptly to secure the scene. A formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances and the underlying cause behind the incident. Officials have registered a case and are currently recording statements from witnesses, waiting for his family to arrive in Mangaluru, and closely examining the building’s CCTV footage.
