MGM Medical College Indore: Final-Year MD Medicine Student Allegedly Commits Suicide
The medical fraternity is mourning yet another devastating loss as the mental health crisis on campuses continues to take a grim toll. Dr. Aman Patel, a 28-year-old final-year postgraduate medical student at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College in Indore, was found dead under tragic circumstances, with authorities suspecting suicide.
The Fatal Incident
The devastating incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 18, 2026. Dr. Patel, a resident doctor in the MD Medicine Department, was found dead on the rear side of the boys’ hostel building in the Sanyogitaganj area at approximately 2:00 AM. Originally hailing from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, the young doctor was in the 2023 PG batch and just months away from completing his master’s degree.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the hostel authorities raised the alarm. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tushar Singh stated that, prima facie, it appears Dr. Patel jumped from the terrace (sixth floor) of the hostel building. His cell phone was found badly crushed near the scene.
CCTV Blindspot and Relationship Angle
As per TOI, authorities are evaluating a potential relationship angle. Sources indicate that late Sunday night, a female medical student contacted Dr. Patel’s friends, expressing concern that he was not answering his phone. It was this specific alarm that prompted hostel residents to search the premises, ultimately leading to the tragic discovery of his body.
Complicating the probe, police have discovered a major security lapse: the functional CCTV cameras installed across the hostel premises were turned-off at the time of the incident. This critical blindspot is currently preventing investigators from establishing a precise chronological tracking of the event leading up to his death.

Administration Urges Privacy
Authorities have confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from his room or his belongings. As the police probe all possible angles, including academic pressure and personal distress, the MGM Medical College administration has issued a statement expressing profound grief. The college authorities have strongly urged the public and the student body to avoid spreading unverified rumors and to respect the privacy of the grieving family. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and his family in Jabalpur has been notified.
