MAMC and Delhi University Ban All Protests and Rallies on Campus for One Month
Following the university’s directive, the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) officially uploaded the notice to its website, enforcing the temporary prohibition on all its medical students, resident doctors, and faculty members with immediate effect.
The blanket ban, issued by the DU Proctor’s office on February 17, comes in the direct aftermath of violent clashes that erupted on the DU North Campus earlier this month. The conflict occurred during a student demonstration regarding the controversial UGC Equity Regulations 2026, which eventually escalated into cross-FIRs and allegations of assault.

According to the official MAMC and DU notice, the administration cited that unrestricted public gatherings and processions frequently lead to the “obstruction of traffic, threats to human life, and disturbance of public peace.” The order explicitly prohibits the assembly of five or more persons for any agitation or dharna.

The decision has sparked widespread outrage. Multiple student organizations and the DU Teachers’ Association have demanded an immediate rollback of the order. Critics are calling the blanket ban an “undemocratic attack on education” designed to smother healthy debate and prevent students and faculty from voicing legitimate grievances regarding campus issues.
Unless withdrawn earlier following the ongoing backlash, the ban will remain in force until mid-March 2026.
