Delhi Dermatologist dr Manish Gupta Arrested for Murdering House Help in Kailash hills

The upscale neighborhood of Mount Kailash in South Delhi has been rocked by a gruesome murder that exposes a chilling intersection of superstition, privilege, and fatal violence. Dr. Manish Gupta, a 54-year-old prominent dermatologist, was arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly battering and stabbing his 45-year-old domestic worker, Meena Haldar, to death on the rooftop of his apartment building.

The 66 Minutes of Horror

The horrifying sequence of events unfolded on the morning of June 18, 2026. According to police investigators, the tragedy occurred shortly after Dr. Gupta’s wife, Dr. Tina Gupta—an Ayurvedic practitioner—left for work at around 10:15 AM. Meena, who had faithfully served the family for over 15 years, arrived for her routine duties. After washing the laundry, she headed to the common terrace to dry the clothes.

Between 11:15 AM and 11:30 AM, Dr. Gupta allegedly followed her upstairs. Armed with a cricket bat, he reportedly struck her violently on the head, causing her to collapse, before repeatedly stabbing her with a sharp knife. At 11:36 AM, a panicked neighbor, who had spotted the blood-soaked body on the terrace, made a PCR call to the Amar Colony police station. When the police arrived at the scene, they found Dr. Gupta squatting passively next to Meena’s lifeless body, alongside the blood-stained murder weapons. He was immediately taken into custody.

“Black Magic” Suspicions and Family Tensions

During preliminary questioning, Dr. Gupta allegedly confessed to the crime, presenting a bizarre and deeply disturbing motive. He claimed that Meena was practicing “black magic” and bringing “bad energy” into the household, which he believed was directly responsible for disrupting his 19-year-old son’s academic progress and career after Class 12.

Police sources revealed that tensions had been brewing in the household for the past two to three years over this exact issue. Dr. Gupta had repeatedly demanded that his wife fire Meena, but she adamantly refused, leading to frequent domestic disputes. Furthermore, investigators noted that the doctor had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and taking antidepressant medication for nearly a decade.

Outrage and a Shattered Family

Meena’s brutal murder has sparked massive outrage among domestic workers in the area, who gathered outside the residence demanding justice and clashing with police. Meena’s grieving son, Robin Haldar, expressed his disbelief to reporters: “My mother worked very hard to run the house for years… She provided us with the best life. If she was not doing her work properly, they could have just removed her. Why kill her? What was her fault?”

The crime has also left the local community completely stunned. Professionally, Dr. Gupta had a thriving two-decade career, running skin clinics in East of Kailash and Karol Bagh, and was the recipient of a 2017 Indian Medical Association (IMA) Distinguished Doctor Award. Neighbors described him as a quiet, polite man who frequently donated to animal welfare NGOs and charitable causes, making the sheer brutality of the attack almost impossible for them to comprehend.

This heart-wrenching tragedy is a grim reminder of how severe, unmanaged mental health conditions can spiral into unimaginable violence. While millions live with depression safely, prolonged psychiatric deterioration can sometimes fracture a person’s grip on reality, leading to dangerous delusions—like the baseless fear of “bad energy.” It highlights a terrifying societal blind spot: even highly educated medical professionals can suffer catastrophic psychological collapses. True justice for Meena requires us to stop brushing severe mental health red flags under the rug, ensuring timely psychiatric intervention before a mind completely breaks.”
