Pune: 23-Year-Old MBBS Student Found Hanging in Flat, Police Probe Case
A 23-year-old first-year MBBS student from a city medical college was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her flat in Vishrantwadi, Pune, around 6am on Sunday. According to Vishrantwadi police, the student was in her bedroom while her mother and brother were asleep in separate rooms of the same flat when the incident occurred. Inspector Sampatrao Raut stated that the family had dinner together on Saturday night and went to their respective rooms around midnight. Police suspect the death occurred sometime between midnight and 6am, narrowing the possible time window of the incident.
How the Incident Came to Light
The case came to light when the student’s mother attempted to wake her in the morning. After receiving no response despite repeated knocks, the family forced open the bedroom door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the room during the search conducted in the presence of family members.
Medical History, Academic Pressure & Background
According to times of India, the parents informed investigators that the student had been undergoing treatment for depression and had been emotionally disturbed for some time. Authorities noted that her father is a well-known medical practitioner based in Nanded. Authorities also added that “She aspired to become a singer and was described as having a beautiful voice, but enrolled in the MBBS course at a medical college in Katraj as per her parents’ wishes. She was staying in the college hostel during weekdays and would return to her family home in Vishrantwadi on weekends” .
