NMC Approves 7,619 New PG Medical Seats for 2025-26; Total Count Reaches 57,503

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released the seat matrix for the academic year 2025-2026, announcing the approval of 7,619 new postgraduate medical seats. This significant addition brings the total count of available PG (Broad Specialty) seats in India to 57,503, marking a major boost for medical aspirants across the country.

The details were confirmed in a public notice dated December 17, 2025, which clarifies the final seat tally following the conclusion of the approval process. According to the notice, this data reflects the seat status as of December 8, 2025, and includes all permissions granted to medical colleges and institutes up to that date.

In the official statement, MARB President Dr. M.K. Ramesh noted, “The number of seats available as on 08.12.2025 in various Post-Graduate (Broad Speciality) courses in Medical Colleges/Institutions after the inclusion of seats granted on or before 8.12.2025 under the purview of the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the Academic Year 2025-26 is attached for the information of all stakeholders.”
