Medical Quackery Claims Life: 26-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Dies in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar
The unchecked menace of unqualified medical practitioners has claimed another life, sparking renewed outrage across the medical fraternity. A 26-year-old woman, who was four months pregnant, tragically died under suspicious circumstances at the clinic of a self-styled “doctor” in the Balodabazar district of Chhattisgarh.
The Incident
According to recent reports, the woman, who was a mother to a two-year-old, visited the rural clinic seeking basic treatment for a common cold and cough. Local residents and family members stated that the practitioner administered an unverified injection. Within 15 to 20 minutes, the patient began vomiting, lost consciousness, and collapsed.
She was urgently rushed to the nearby Community Health Centre (CHC) in Palaria, where she was declared dead on arrival. The Block Medical Officer noted signs of a severe acute medical event, including blood and froth coming from her nose.
The Systemic Failure
What makes this tragedy particularly alarming is the brazen nature of the illegal practice. The accused practitioner has publicly admitted to operating the clinic and treating patients for nearly 17 years without holding any formal medical degree or qualification.

Despite the highly suspicious circumstances of her death, the victim’s family reportedly submitted a written application refusing a postmortem, and no formal police FIR has been registered at the local station so far. This lack of legal action highlights the severe challenges authorities face in cracking down on deeply entrenched rural quackery, where unqualified practitioners often hold significant sway and trust within local communities.
“While the government micromanages and penalizes qualified doctors with draconian rules and service bonds, unqualified quacks continue to operate, and endanger lives, with absolute impunity. It is a dangerous double standard that suffocates the real medical fraternity while failing to protect the public.”
