Ragging at Doon Medical College: Junior Forced to Shave Beard by Seniors
Toxic hierarchy and ragging culture have once again surfaced at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) in Dehradun. An MBBS student has lodged a fresh complaint alleging that senior students subjected him to harassment by forcefully making him get a haircut and shave his beard.
The Current Investigation
As reported by Times Of India, the complaint was submitted anonymously. The college’s Anti-Ragging Committee has officially taken up the matter.
GDMC Principal Dr. Geeta Jain confirmed the investigation, stating, “The committee is looking into all the aspects of the complaint as the complainant is anonymous and has not revealed the identity of the seniors.” A senior doctor at the institution also indicated that the college administration is likely to hold a press conference soon to address the media and clarify the next steps regarding the perpetrators.

A Disturbing History of Violence
This new incident has caused massive outrage largely because of the college’s very recent history with severe ragging. Just three months ago, in early 2026, the administration had to take strict disciplinary action after a first-year (2025 batch) MBBS student reported a horrifying ordeal. That junior student was allegedly taken off-campus and brutally beaten with a belt by seniors, leaving him “shaken and terrified.”
Following that incident, GDMC suspended nine MBBS students and expelled them from the hostel. The two primary perpetrators were suspended from classes for two months, expelled from their internship and hostel for the entirety of their course, and slapped with a massive fine of ₹50,000 each.
Despite those severe punishments, the emergence of this fresh complaint suggests that the underlying culture of senior dominance and harassment has still not been fully eradicated from the campus
