BRD Medical College Ragging: 18 MBBS Students Suspended After NMC Order

The administration of Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur has initiated massive disciplinary action following severe campus ragging allegations. Acting on direct intervention and strict orders from the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college has officially suspended 18 senior MBBS students for physically and verbally harassing their juniors.

The NMC Complaint and Harassment Details

The disturbing pattern of harassment came to light when an anonymous complaint was forwarded to the NMC and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Following this alert, the NMC sent a formal communication to the college on Saturday, May 23, 2026, demanding strict and immediate action against the perpetrators.

According to the complaint, senior students from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches had been routinely entering the hostels of the first-year MBBS students belonging to the 2025 batch. The juniors were allegedly forced into physically strenuous postures for prolonged periods, and were subjected to highly abusive language and sexually explicit conversations. Compounding the severity of the issue, six of the accused seniors had already faced penalties and fines for similar ragging incidents just seven months prior. Local reports also indicated that once the investigation began, the accused seniors actively threatened the first-year students via phone calls, warning them that their careers would be ruined if they did not withdraw the complaint.

Strict Action: Suspensions and Fines

To address the escalating situation, Principal Dr. Ram Kumar Jaiswal convened emergency meetings of the Anti-Ragging Committee on Tuesday and Wednesday. Following intense questioning where the victims and accused were brought face-to-face, the committee handed down a decisive verdict on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

All 18 accused senior students have been officially suspended from the college for one month. Furthermore, a strict fine of ₹25,000 has been levied on each of the suspended individuals. The administration also summoned the parents of the accused to the college, issuing them severe warnings regarding their children’s unacceptable conduct. Further investigations are currently ongoing to determine if five other students actively assisted in the harassment.
