Body Suspected to be Missing Indian Medical Student Found in Georgia
The harrowing search for the missing Indian medical student in Georgia has taken a dark and devastating turn. Following weeks of desperate appeals from his family, an unidentified body has been recovered from a local river, raising profound fears that it may be the 23-year-old medical student from Ahmedabad.
Discovery in the Mtkvari River
The tragic development came to light on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Georgian authorities recovered a body from the Mtkvari River; however, identification has proven exceedingly difficult due to the advanced state of decomposition resulting from prolonged submersion.
To determine the identity, Georgian police have officially collected DNA samples from the student’s elder brother, Mihir, who had traveled to Georgia to assist in the search operations. The victim’s father, Mayur, clarified that officials have not yet formally confirmed his son’s death pending the DNA results, but has strongly demanded a thorough post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death if the identity is confirmed.
A Timeline of Extortion and Disappearance
The missing student, identified as Dhvanit Rajdeep, was pursuing his medical degree at Caucasus University. He has been completely untraceable since Thursday, May 14, 2026.
According to earlier reports and his family’s statements, Dhvanit was subjected to severe mental harassment and extortion by an Indian landlord named Anil and his associates. The family alleged that his money and belongings were stolen, and when Dhvanit attempted to move out, he was locked in a room and extorted for his deposit. After securing his release, his father booked him a flight back to India. Tragically, while on his way to the airport on May 14, his phone call with his family was suddenly cut off mid-conversation, and he never boarded his flight. The family had recently appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for urgent intervention
