AIIMS Bhubaneswar Junior resident Doctor Found Hanging in rented flat
The medical fraternity at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar is in shock following the tragic death of a 26-year-old resident doctor. Dr. Divya V, a native of Karnataka serving in the pharmacology department, was found hanging in her rented flat in the Dumduma area of the city on Tuesday June 16, 2026.
The Discovery
According to police, Dr. Divya was sharing the rented accommodation with a roommate. She had reportedly been on leave for a few days due to health issues. The incident came to light when her roommate returned from duty on Tuesday afternoon and found the door locked from the inside. When repeated calls and knocks went unanswered, local residents helped break the door open, leading to the devastating discovery of Dr. Divya hanging from the ceiling fan.

Officers from the Khandagiri police station quickly arrived at the scene, registered an unnatural death case, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. While initial police findings and the reported discovery of a suicide note pointed toward self-harm, the case has taken a dark turn.
Family Raises Questions, Probe Continues
While investigators have not announced any definitive conclusion regarding the cause of death, the deceased doctor’s family has reportedly alleged foul play and demanded a thorough investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, which will be conducted in the presence of family members. Police officials have stated that all possible angles, including suicide and homicide, are being examined, and the final cause of death will depend on forensic findings and the post-mortem report.
