Shocking: Desperate for MBBS Seat, UP Man Cuts Off Own leg to Fake Disability
In a shocking incident in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, a D-Pharma graduate amputated his own foot in a desperate bid to secure admission to an MBBS program under the disability quota. The student, identified as Suraj, severed four toes from his left foot using a saw machine and anesthesia, leaving only the thumb. He initially filed a police report claiming he had been attacked by unknown assailants, sparking an investigation in the Line Bazaar police station area.
Police quickly unraveled the deception after recovering incriminating evidence from the scene, including the saw, anesthesia vials, and syringes, with no signs of outside involvement. Interrogations and call data records revealed that Suraj, suffering from severe depression due to past failures to secure a medical seat, had orchestrated the act himself. Authorities discovered a diary in his possession where he had vowed to obtain MBBS admission in 2026 “at any cost.”

Officials noted that Suraj utilized his existing medical knowledge from his pharmacy studies to perform the procedure himself. He had previously confided his plan to his girlfriend and had even visited Banaras Hindu University (BHU) earlier to inquire about documentation. Suraj is currently receiving treatment in stable condition, and police are pursuing further legal action regarding the false reporting and self-harm incident.
