KEM MBBS Student Faces ST Certificate Allegations After Viral Cadaver Remarks Controversy

The controversy surrounding a KEM Hospital MBBS student Sejal Pawar, has taken a new turn after social media users raised questions regarding the validity of her Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate. The allegations emerged days after the student faced nationwide criticism for remarks made about male cadavers during a live comedy show segment that subsequently went viral.

According to claims circulating on social media, the student allegedly secured admission under the ST quota. One X user asserted that publicly available academic records and college information suggest she was admitted through the reserved category, while questioning whether her surname aligns with communities recognised under the Central Scheduled Tribe list. As of now, no official authority has publicly confirmed any irregularity, and the allegations remain unverified.

Cadaver Remarks Triggered Professional and Legal Fallout

The original controversy began during a crowd interaction segment of comedian Pranit More’s live show, where the student allegedly made comments comparing the private anatomy of male cadavers encountered during medical training. The clip sparked widespread condemnation from doctors, medical students, and members of the public.

Many within the medical fraternity argued that cadavers are regarded as the “first teachers” of medical students and deserve dignity and respect. Critics warned that such remarks could undermine public trust in body donation programs, which remain crucial for anatomy education in India. Following the backlash, the student issued a public apology, acknowledging that the remarks were inappropriate and involved a sensitive subject.

Institutional Action Underway

In the aftermath of the incident, KEM Hospital and Medical College reportedly placed the student on 15 days of compulsory leave and restricted her access to the hospital, college, and hostel premises. A five-member inquiry committee has been constituted and is expected to submit its findings within seven days.

The institution has also reportedly recommended counselling support, citing concerns regarding the student’s mental well-being amid intense public scrutiny. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered an FIR involving multiple individuals connected to the show. The latest ST certificate allegations are likely to intensify public debate, but any conclusions regarding reservation fraud will require formal investigation and documentary verification by competent authorities.
