Prayagraj SRN Hospital: 20 Doctors Suspended After Clash With Lawyers
The ongoing tension between medical professionals and the legal fraternity has reached a boiling point in Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, May 22, 2026, the administration of Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj took massive disciplinary action by suspending 20 resident doctors following a fierce three-day dispute and strike that severely paralyzed city healthcare services.
The Trauma Center Altercation
The story began earlier this week when a female advocate, Jagriti Shukla, was brought to the SRN Hospital’s Trauma Center for treatment. A heated argument broke out between the attending junior doctors and the lawyers accompanying her regarding the course and promptness of her medical care. The verbal altercation quickly escalated into a full-blown physical clash between the two groups.
In response to the incident, junior doctors called for an immediate strike, completely halting emergency and OPD services at the hospital for three consecutive days. Simultaneously, angry lawyers took to the streets and staged massive protests (dharna) outside the hospital and police stations, demanding immediate administrative action against the medical staff.

Suspension and Resolution
To diffuse the highly volatile situation and restore crippled medical services, Dr. V.K. Pandey, the Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College (which SRN Hospital is affiliated with), constituted an inquiry committee. Based on the committee’s preliminary recommendations, 20 junior doctors from the Trauma Center have been officially suspended pending a final investigation report.
Following this strict administrative crackdown on Friday, the lawyers officially called off their protests, and the resident doctors simultaneously ended their strike, allowing crucial healthcare operations at SRN Hospital to finally resume
