Real-Life Heroes: Kerala Doctors Perform Emergency Roadside Surgery with Razor and Straw
This news story, from Ernakulam, Kerala, highlights a remarkable act of heroism and community spirit. A young motorcyclist, Lineesh, was found bleeding and gasping for breath on the roadside.
Three doctors – Dr. Thomas Peter, Dr. Didiya, and Dr. Manoop – acted instantly. Using a razor blade and a drinking straw, they managed to open his airway doing a emergency procedure called – cricothyroidotomy.
The community, including locals and police, also played a crucial role. They provided flashlights, tools, and offered support, working together to give the stranger a second chance at life. A paper straw was even replaced with a plastic one by a bystander to aid in the fight for life.
“It was a desperate attempt to save a critically injured life. Initially, we got only a paper straw, but the police managed to bring a plastic straw. Soon he was shifted to a hospital by ambulance,” Dr Manoop said.
After being stabilized, Lineesh was rushed to the hospital, alive and breathing, with hope restored. The post emphasizes that heroism doesn’t wait for hospitals; it appears wherever courage and compassion meet.
