Bikaner PBM Hospital: Female Surgery Resident Assaulted, Doctors Boycott Services
Workplace violence against healthcare professionals has once again paralyzed medical services, this time in Rajasthan. Resident doctors at the Prince Bijey Singh Memorial (PBM) Hospital in Bikaner have launched a massive boycott of clinical services following the severe abuse and physical assault of a female surgery resident on duty.
The Trauma Centre Assault
The disturbing incident unfolded late Friday night and escalated into a full-blown strike by the morning of Saturday, May 30, 2026. According to the protesting medical staff, the female resident doctor was performing her duties at the hospital’s Trauma Centre when she was aggressively abused, manhandled, and assaulted by a patient’s attendants.
Following the attack, resident doctors made repeated emergency calls to the hospital authorities – including the Principal and Medical Superintendent – but alleged that the administration failed to provide an immediate or satisfactory response. The situation further deteriorated when local police arrived at the Trauma Centre; the agitating doctors claimed that the responding police officer behaved inappropriately with the medical staff and appeared to shield the accused attackers.
Services Paralyzed as Doctors Demand Justice
Infuriated by the administration’s apathy and the lack of immediate arrests, resident doctors from the Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Orthopaedics departments officially suspended their clinical duties and staged a massive protest outside the hospital.
The Resident Doctors’ Association has issued a stern ultimatum: medical services will remain completely boycotted until strict legal action is taken against the perpetrators and robust, institutional security measures – including armed guards and functional CCTV cameras – are immediately implemented at the Trauma Centre to protect on-duty healthcare workers
