Prayagraj SRN Hospital: Dr Monish Ali Detained From Home; Doctors Protest Lack of Transparency

The medical fraternity in Prayagraj has been plunged into a renewed crisis following the tragic death of 23-year-old advocate Jagriti Shukla on June 8, 2026. Shukla had sustained severe injuries in a road accident on May 20, after which she was brought to the Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital, affiliated with MLN Medical College. Her arrival triggered a massive, violent clash between her fellow lawyers and junior doctors in the emergency ward. Following her demise at SGPGI Lucknow yesterday, protesting lawyers blocked city traffic, escalating their demands for immediate criminal action against the medical staff.

A Resident Detained, An Administration Silent

According to a report published by The Times of India, the conflict has escalated sharply with the police detention of a junior resident doctor. Dr. Monish Ali, a second-year junior resident (JR2) in the Surgery department at SRN Hospital, was reportedly taken into police custody from his house in his hometown of Rampur. As reported by The Times of India, Dr. Nipendra, the President of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) Prayagraj, stated that policemen allegedly picked up their colleague without providing any prior information or an official warrant.

Fellow doctors report that his current whereabouts remain completely unknown. More alarmingly, the medical college administration has offered zero institutional or legal support, leaving the resident doctor community to handle the fallout of the one-sided pressure from the local legal fraternity following the May 20 altercation.

The Hypocrisy of Institutional Protection

The detention of Dr. Ali exposes a glaring hypocrisy in how workplace disputes and clinical safety are handled by authorities. As documented in previous reports by Medical Dialogues, the hospital administration had swiftly suspended 20 junior doctors following the initial clash simply to appease the protesting legal bodies, drawing criticism that healthcare professionals were being presumed guilty without an investigation. Frontline workers alleged that they were physically assaulted and filmed during the initial incident, yet no immediate legal shield was provided.

Now, with a resident abruptly picked up from his home without transparent due process, the MLN administration’s ongoing silence has triggered an immediate backlash. The Times of India confirms that resident doctors at SRN Hospital have officially halted all medical services and gone on an indefinite strike. The medicos have appealed to the state government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding Dr. Ali’s immediate and safe release. In a state that heavily promotes strict law and order, the medical community is left asking why young doctors are consistently treated as undefended scapegoats when tragedy strikes.
