MBBS Crisis in Delhi: ESIC College Admits 1st Batch with Zero Professors in Anatomy & Physiology
A shocking report has revealed that the newly established ESIC Medical College and PGIMSR at Basaidarapur, New Delhi, which recently admitted its first batch of MBBS students (Session 2025-26), is operating without a single Professor in the three critical pre-clinical departments: Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry.
These subjects form the foundation of medical education, yet the college has started classes with a severe void in senior academic leadership, relying almost entirely on junior or contractual staff.
RTI data and internal reports indicate a glaring violation of National Medical Commission (NMC) norms. For instance, the Anatomy department has no Professor or Associate Professor, functioning with just two Assistant Professors and four tutors.

Similarly, the Physiology department is being run by one contractual Associate Professor and one Assistant Professor. The infrastructure is also reportedly inadequate, with the Anatomy department having only three cadavers for the entire undergraduate batch, severely limiting hands-on learning for dissection.
The situation puts the career of the 27 first-year students at risk. Medical education experts have flagged that the absence of senior faculty during the “Foundation Phase” compromises the quality of training and academic supervision.
Despite the college allotting hostels and commencing the session, the lack of permanent senior faculty raises serious questions about how the institute obtained permission to start the course in the first place.
