RIMS Ranchi MBBS Scam: 12 Fake Admissions Found During Rape Case Probe
In an astonishing turn of events, a criminal investigation into a sexual assault has inadvertently blown the lid off a massive medical admission scam in Jharkhand. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered that at least a dozen MBBS seats at the prestigious Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi were secured using completely forged caste and domicile certificates.
How a Rape Case Exposed the Racket
The massive NEET-UG admission fraud came to light following a recent rape case involving a female student at RIMS. During the police investigation, another female RIMS student, identified as Oli Vishwakarma, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the crime.
While scrutinizing the background of the arrested accused, authorities stumbled upon a shocking detail: Oli Vishwakarma had secured her MBBS admission under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) quota using a completely fake caste certificate. This singular revelation opened a Pandora’s box, leading to a flood of similar complaints regarding fraudulent admissions across the state’s medical colleges.

CID Raids and the 12 Fake Admissions
Taking swift cognizance of the matter, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered a high-level CID probe. On Wednesday, multiple CID teams raided the RIMS campus, seizing documents from the Dean’s office, the data center, and the Director’s office.
A preliminary examination of the admission records from the previous academic session, which saw an intake of 150 students, revealed that at least 12 students had blatantly bypassed the NEET-UG counseling regulations. The CID found that these candidates had submitted forged local domicile and caste certificates to illegally grab reserved seats. Among the accused are two real siblings from Sahibganj whose documents were confirmed to be entirely fabricated.
RIMS Dean Dr. D.K. Sinha confirmed that the administration has already begun taking strict action. “The admission of a first-year MBBS student, Kajal Kumari, was cancelled after her caste certificate was found to be forged. A complaint against another student from Pakur district is currently under examination,” he stated.
A State-Wide Crackdown
The scam is not limited to RIMS. Similar cases of forged documents have surfaced in multiple state-run medical colleges. At Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad, the admission of an MBBS aspirant was cancelled after her ST certificate was declared fake, leading to a police FIR. Another first-year student at Medinirai Medical College Hospital in Daltonganj faced identical action for submitting fabricated residential and caste papers.
Following the CID raids, State Health Minister Irfan Ansari announced a sweeping, state-wide investigation into all medical admissions. “We have asked the CID to scan all admissions both at private and public medical colleges. Strict action will be taken against anyone found committing wrongdoing,” Ansari asserted, adding that the state has a zero-tolerance policy towards admissions secured via fake certificates. A three-member investigative committee has been constituted by the health department to oversee the extensive probe.

The RIMS Ranchi scandal is a glaring example of how deeply entrenched corruption is within our medical entrance infrastructure. It is absolutely terrifying that it took an unrelated criminal investigation into a sexual assault to accidentally expose a massive admission racket. While the CID’s swift action is commendable, the fact that candidates with completely fabricated caste and domicile certificates successfully cleared the meticulous document verification during NEET counseling highlights a catastrophic systemic failure. The authorities must aggressively track down the syndicates manufacturing these fake documents, because every stolen reserved seat is a dream snatched away from a genuinely deserving, marginalized candidate.
