West Bengal Medical Student Death: 21-Year-Old Commits Suicide After Failing Exam
In a distressing development reported from Durgapur, West Bengal, a 21-year-old second-year MBBS student was found dead in his hostel room at a private medical college on the night of Saturday, February 14.
According to PTI report, The deceased has been identified as Lavanya Pratap, a native of Patna, Bihar. His body was discovered hanging in the hostel bathroom after friends and hostel staff broke open the door when he did not respond to calls.

Preliminary investigations by the police point towards suicide driven by academic distress. According to statements from his batchmates and hostel warden, Lavanya had been under severe mental stress after failing one subject in his recently concluded second-year semester examinations. He had reportedly secluded himself in his room for the past few days. His family has arrived in Durgapur from Patna, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem to confirm the exact cause of death.
