Ophthalmology Resident Dr. Tanvi Found Dead in Car in Dehradun: FIR Filed Against HOD for Harassment

The medical fraternity is once again mourning the heartbreaking loss of a young resident doctor. Dr. Tanvi, a 25-year-old MS Ophthalmology student at a reputed medical college in Dehradun, was found dead in her parked car early Wednesday morning in what police are investigating as a suicide.

The Tragic Incident

According to police reports, Dr. Tanvi was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her locked car. Investigators discovered that an IV cannula had been inserted into her left arm, connected to a bottle of potassium chloride.

Her father, Dr. Lalit Mohan, had rushed from Ambala to Dehradun overnight after speaking to her for an hour on the phone and subsequently losing contact with her late at night. Upon finding the locked car on the roadside, he broke the window with a stone to pull her out and rushed her to the emergency ward, where she was tragically declared dead.

FIR Filed Against the HOD

The incident has sparked massive outrage after her father officially filed an FIR against the Head of the Department (HOD) of Ophthalmology, charging her with abetment to suicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the police complaint, the family alleges that since the new HOD took charge in December 2025, Dr. Tanvi was subjected to extreme mental, academic, and financial harassment. The father claimed the HOD intimidated her, spitefully awarded her zero marks, threatened to fail her in her final exams, and even allegedly demanded money.

The College’s Response

In response to the FIR, the principal of the medical college released a statement to the police claiming that Dr. Tanvi had been undergoing long-term psychiatric treatment for severe depression. The administration alleged she had a history of suicidal thoughts and had made previous attempts over the last two years.

The police have officially registered the case against the HOD and are actively questioning hospital staff, examining Dr. Tanvi’s academic logbooks, and awaiting the final postmortem report.
