22 Year Old MBBS Student Allegedly Commits Suicide at SMS Medical College Jaipur

The medical community is once again confronting a devastating loss as the silent crisis of campus mental health takes another life. A 22-year-old MBBS student at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur allegedly committed suicide in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Tragic Timeline

The deceased, identified by his family as Nitin, a resident of Alwar, had been living in a rented flat in Jaipur for the past three years. According to police investigations and CCTV footage, the sequence of events unfolded late Friday night. Nitin had been studying with his friends at the SK Menon Hostel until approximately 2:00 AM. He left, telling his peers he was returning to his rented accommodation.

However, CCTV verification revealed that instead of heading home, he entered the New RD Hostel on the college campus at 2:45 AM. Footage showed him heading to the seventh floor at 2:51 AM. Because there were no cameras installed on the eighth floor, his final moments were unrecorded, but police estimate he took the extreme step around 3:35 AM. His body was discovered hanging by a female security guard at 5:30 AM.

Academic Pressure and Police Probe

Local police and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team arrived at the scene shortly after. While no suicide note was recovered, officers found his smartphone and laptop inside his bag.

Nitin had a Forensic Medicine examination scheduled for that very Saturday. His maternal uncle, Amrit, expressed profound shock, stating that Nitin was highly intelligent and had cut off communication with his family for two days simply to focus on his studies. Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Principal of SMS Medical College, echoed this sentiment, confirming that the student was academically brilliant and the administration was deeply shaken by the unexpected tragedy. The police are continuing to question his friends and family to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to his death.
