NTA Announces New Date for NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: June 21 Confirmed
After days of intense anxiety and nationwide protests, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the new schedule for the cancelled NEET-UG 2026 examination. Medical aspirants across the country now have a concrete timeline to restart their preparations.
New Schedule and Admit Card Updates
The re-examination will be conducted offline on Sunday, June 21, 2026. To compensate for administrative formalities and ensure students get their full allotted time, the exam duration has been extended by 15 minutes, with the new timing set from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.
Crucially, students will not have to re-register or pay any additional fees. However, in a major relief for the 22.79 lakh affected candidates, the NTA has opened a dedicated portal allowing students to modify their exam city preferences, reducing the travel burden for those who may have relocated post-exams. The fresh admit cards will be officially released on June 14, providing candidates with exactly one week to finalize their travel arrangements to the newly secured centers.
A Historic Shift to CBT Mode
While the upcoming June 21 exam will remain in the traditional pen-and-paper (OMR) format due to logistical timelines, Minister Pradhan announced a monumental shift for the future of medical admissions. Starting next year (2027), NEET-UG will transition entirely to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Addressing the media, Pradhan explicitly linked this decision to the recent paper leak scandal, stating that the root cause of the breach was the physical handling, printing, and transit of physical test materials. By transitioning to a fully digital, encrypted format—similar to JEE Main and INI-CET—the government aims to eradicate the “examination mafia” and completely eliminate the vulnerabilities associated with distributing physical question papers.
Important Guidelines for Candidates
The NTA has urged students and parents to rely strictly on official channels for updates and warned against social media rumors. While full logistical details are still rolling out, previous protocols suggest the following for the massive cohort of impacted students:
• No Fresh Registration Needed: Candidates will likely not need to re-apply. The applications submitted for the cancelled May 3 exam remain valid.
• New Admit Cards: The old admit cards are officially void. The NTA will issue a fresh set of admit cards, complete with new examination center allocations.
