A senior administrative official at Pune’s Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College has been placed on compulsory and indefinite leave after at least four women employees accused him of harassment and misconduct. According to a collective complaint dated June 1, 2026 , the women alleged that the official repeatedly summoned them to his cabin, disrupted their work, subjected them to mental harassment, and sent unsolicited and inappropriate WhatsApp messages.
Inquiry Committee Formed Under Vishakha Guidelines
On June 5, 2026 , the college administration confirmed that an inquiry committee has been constituted under the Vishakha guidelines to investigate the allegations. Dean-in-charge Sunita Sawant stated that the complaint was received only recently and that a thorough investigation would be conducted. The complainants have also sought anonymity and protection from potential retaliation, citing concerns about the accused official’s senior position within the institution.
Fresh Controversy for a College Already Under Scrutiny
The incident adds to a growing list of administrative controversies surrounding the PMC-run medical college.
